NBA referees, umpires from Major League Baseball and sports officials from the college levels – along with many kids and families – turned out to volunteer for a great cause in Feeding My Starving Children in Arizona. All together, there were 65 volunteers representing Sports Officials Care!
According to NBA Referee Scott Twardoski, who also serves as Sports Officials Care Vice President, the crew packed enough food to feed 54 children for an entire year!
Among the officials who took time out for this event were NBA referee and SOC President Billy Kennedy, Scott Twardoski, Kevin Cutler (NBA), John Butler (NBA), Gary Darling (President of UMPS CARE Charities and retired MLB umpire), and Jim Reynolds, Vice President of UMPS CARE and an MLB Umpire Supervisor.
“It was a great event with amazing people,” Scott Twardoski said. “One of the pillars of Sports Officials Care is giving back to the community. On the courts, and on the fields, sports officials are helping the community, but they also support the communities where they live through these kinds of efforts. I’m looking forward to participating in more of these events with even more sports officials across the country.”
